Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

Laughs & Giggles

A visit to Judy’s Jungle

I know you have come to expect meaningful, insightful and educational topics in all my posts. Well, not this time. Sometimes, you just want to appreciate something for laughs and giggles (L&G). So, just to brighten your day, lets take a visit to Judy’s Jungle.

So, I would love to tell you a heart wrenching story about Judy’s Jungle. Something like…some kid named Judy had cancer. And, her parents built this menagerie outside of her window. The kid could look out her window and see the animals in the Jungle. The jungle helped her cope with the chemotherapy etc. etc. Touching enough? Well, never mind. Yeah, that story was a complete lie.

Anyway, there is a long standing business in Mentor, Ohio, that does heat treating of materials. As it is in northern Ohio, his parking lot was often covered in deep snow. The snow obscured the edge of the parking lot. On several occasions, trucks drove off the edge of the parking lot and got stuck. So that the truck drivers would know where the edge of the lot was…he created Judy’s Jungle just past the parking lot edge. Judy is his wife’s name. Not as touching as a kid with cancer, but that’s the facts.

Now, I will give you some trip logistics in case you want to visit Judy’s Jungle. Its not in a bad neighborhood. But, its in a light industrial area. So, I would keep your visit to the day light hours. As to parking, we just parked in the heat treat business’ lot. I am 82% sure that they are OK with people using the lot to see Judy’s Jungle. You will feel like you are trespassing during the entire visit. But, the worst they would do is ask you to leave…probably. And, I can not fail to mention one of my favorite things…its all FREE. No shocker there. But, I really like “FREE.”

Just for laugh and giggles, I hope you have enjoyed this visit to Judy’s Jungle. I did not include all the animals in the jungle. So, there are more beasts for you to discover if you can brave the jungle and Mentor.
