Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

CHALLENGE #12 – ANSWERED – Where’s Carol Merrill?

That’s a lovely row of colorful buildings behind Carol Merrill.

In what city is Carol standing?

CHALLENGE #12 – ANSWERED…

As several of you knew, the colorful row of buildings behind Carol Merrill is the famous “Rainbow Row” of Charleston, South Carolina. Rainbow Row is the longest grouping of Georgian row homes currently existing in the USA. Rainbow Row was mostly built in the mid 1700s and is located on East Bay Street. In 1778, a fire destroyed many of the original buildings. Rainbow Row is the surviving row homes following that fire. Following the fire, this area gradually went into a decline until the 1920s and 30s. At that point, this area began its come back. The homes were renovated, restored, and painted in the iconic pastel colors leading to the term Rainbow Row.

Thank you for participating in this CHALLENGE. And, as always, thanks for visiting Traveling with PugsleyTonks. PT
