CHALLENGE #16 – ANSWERED
Usually, these challenges show strange and interesting places…places of fame and notoriety. But not this time, you just get a finger and an empty spot on a wall. To be clear, I am not asking for the location of the disembodied hand. I am asking…
Why is he pointing at that spot?

OK, I am sure the answer is obvious at this point. The disembodied hand is pointing at the spot where Peter Edward Rose Sr. SHOULD be placed on the wall of the Baseball Hall of Fame. But, lets be clear, the MLB Hall of Fame has Pete all over the place. Pictures, videos, memorabilia, records and tributes to Pete Rose can be seen in abundance as you walk through the Hall. While his “crimes” prevent him from being officially inducted on to the Wall…that does not mean that the HOF is not willing to still cash in on his accomplishments…hypocrites.
Now, I won’t bore you much further with my unbiased opinion on this issue. However, please just allow me to state my main issue with keeping Pete out of the Hall of Fame. Sure, he gambled. And yes, gambling means a lifetime ban. But, there was no rule stating that his name could not appear on the ballot to be voted on by the baseball sports writers. The rule to keep him off the ballot was made up after the fact by a vengeful Bart Giamatti (MLB Commissioner at the time) just for Pete. I say keep him banned from baseball so that he could never be employed in any way. But, put him on the ballot…just as they have done with all the steroid cheaters. Then, let the writers decide if his accomplishments (and crimes) are worthy of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Main drag of Cooperstown, NY, with HOF and shops, bars, and other good tourist stuff Carol Merrill at Otsego Lake Otsego Resort…the grandest of your lodging options
Fine, that is enough about Pete. But, before wrapping this up, I wanted to do a quick shout out to Cooperstown, New York. The quaint town of Cooperstown was a very pleasant surprise. Cooperstown is a small town, hidden gem between the Adirondack and Catskill Mountain ranges. The town has that old time feel and the scenery around the town is noteworthy. The mountains and expansive Otsego Lake are the backstop for Cooperstown. We stayed at the grand old Otsego Resort Hotel. If you go in the off season (i.e. not during baseball season)…this town is a quiet mountain retreat. PT
