Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

CHALLENGE #5

OK, as promised, the lower degree of difficulty with the last Challenge enabled many of you to regain some confidence. I hope to crush your newly gained confidence with this weekend’s CHALLENGE.

The picture shows the smallest “something” in the USA. What smallest thing am I? And, where am I?

ANSWER TO CHALLENGE #4

Here is the view from the top, and there is the view from the bottom…What bridge am I?

As many of you rightly identified, the bridge is the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia. The white water rafting shot is in the New River. The New River Gorge bridge was completed in 1977. At that time, it was the largest single span arch bridge…a distinction that lasted for about 26 years.

Beyond that distinction, I would say the bridge is more known for “Bridge Day.” As the bridge is 876 feet above the water, it makes for great base and bungee jumping…if you actually feel those things can be fun. Once per year, the bridge is completely shut down for the Bridge Day celebration. All day long, these nuts…I mean thrill seeking athletes find every different way possible to throw people off the bridge. So, if that’s your thing…Bridge Day is the celebration for you. I have not been down there on Bridge Day, but I have been down there several times to raft on the New River. The guide told me that you can still raft on Bridge Day. Where most of the rafting ends is the same place they fish the jumpers out of the river. I always thought it would be great to do the rafting on Bridge Day. You would take the rafting trip in the morning then hang out below the bridge for the rest of the afternoon. It would be a fun time had by all. PT

I would guess a post office but I don’t see a flag. Have no idea where.
