CHALLENGE – Answered
Name these Football Legends
Just in case anyone actually cares about the answers, I wanted to publish the answers to my Football Legends CHALLENGE. Without further adieu…
Legend #1… Wayne Woodrow “Woody” Hayes
Before The Ohio State Buckeyes were THE current National Champion, Woody won 5 titles for the Buckeyes. Sadly, his career ended when he punched a Clemson player after an interception in the 1978 Gator Bowl. Ohio State was trailing 17-15, but within field goal range. Naturally, Woody called a safe running play and planned to take the field goal. However, gambling addict QB, Art Schlichter, needed to cover the spread for his bet. So, he changed the play to a pass…threw an interception…and the aged Woody lost his mind.

Legend #2… Thomas Wade Landry
Tom Landry was the first coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. He won 2 Super Bowl titles. He coached for 29 years before Jerry Jones fired him to install his buddy, Jimmy Johnson, as the new head coach. However, my favorite part of the AT&T stadium tour was not his statue…

Legend #3… Earl Louis “Curly” Lambeau
Curly Lambeau founded the Green Bay Packers in 1919. He started as player-coach before settling in as head coach and general manager until 1949. Two months after his death in 1965, the Packers renamed their stadium to Lambeau Field. When I actually visited the “frozen tundra” of Lambeau Field, I was kind of disappointed. Its been nicely renovated. Everything looks nice, new, and modernized. There is no frozen tundra. It was just not what I expected.

Legend #4… Knute Kenneth Rockne
I always assumed “Knute” was his nickname, like Woody or Curly. But, no, Knute is his mother-given first name. Anyway, Knute was a Notre Dame legend with 3 National titles to his credit. And, while the stadium and Knute were of interest, my primary focus was seeing Touchdown Jesus.

Legend #5… Mary Richards a.k.a. Mary Tyler Moore
Of course, that is the iconic Minneapolis statue of Mary Richards, much beloved lead character of the Mary Tyler Moore show. Perhaps, she is technically not a Football Legend. But, as you see her in her iconic #10 Fran Tarkington jersey, she was a big Minnesota Vikings fan.

Wrap It Up
As this is a bye week for THE National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes, I wanted fill the entertainment void with this bit of extra football entertainment. Have a wonderful day. PT
