Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

Happy National Sasquatch Awareness Day

Bigfoot – King of Cryptids

Happy National Sasquatch Awareness Day! On this most important of holidays, please allow me to recognize the King of the Cryptids…Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, or Skunk Ape, or Grassman. However you name him/her, I consider Bigfoot to be the pinnacle of cryptozoology (i.e. “the search for and study of animals whose existence or survival is currently disputed or unsubstantiated”). But, before you start your celebration on this big day, allow me to provide some background…

October 20 was selected as Sasquatch Awareness Day because its the anniversary of this landmark film from 1967. As I am sure you are aware, this is the iconic Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film. This brief footage really put Bigfoot in the national spot light. While this footage occurred in northern California, Bigfoot sightings have had an extremely wide range.

So, on this Bigfoot Awareness Day, please allow me to share a compilation of some of my Bigfoot travels. Admittedly, some of these pictures have already appeared in past posts. But, come on man, its Sasquatch Awareness Day.

Trust me…its SCIENCE!

As you should know by now, this is not just about some rednecks claiming to see Bigfoot while drunk in the woods (not that there is anything wrong with being drunk in the woods). Anyway, there is a science to Bigfoot research. Depending on your legitimacy criteria, there are at least a dozen Bigfoot research centers throughout the USA. If I get near one, I always stop by to continue my scholarly pursuits…

I have visited most of the research centers east of the Mississippi. Naturally, some are better than others. My two favorites so far are the Georgia and Florida centers, shown above. There are several other research centers to look forward to when I travel to the west coast. Particularly, I think the North American Bigfoot Center in Boring, OR, looks particularly promising. In all my research thus far, my top, unarguable evidence of Bigfoot’s existence would be the butt print and the poop.

For the Love of Bigfoot

Anyway, I will not bore you anymore with the high level, Bigfoot science. Beyond my cryptozoological studies of bigfoot, I just like taking pictures of Bigfoot whenever I encounter him. On more than one road trip, my beloved wife, Carol, has been shocked to alertness as I suddenly pulled the car off the road to capture a Bigfoot photo. What better occasion to show off my collection than National Sasquatch Awareness Day…

Stop It Already!

OK, I will stop showing off my collection of Bigfoot travel photos. But, what better time to share the love of Bigfoot than on this Bigfoot holiday. Please have a safe and happy National Sasquatch Awareness Day. PT
