Kcymaerxthaere
Trying to Explain…Kcymaerxthaere
Albert Einstein once said something like…”If you can not explain something simply…you simply do not understand it.” Well, I simply do not fully understand Kcymaerxthaere. So, I will not be able to simply explain it to you. As best that I can explain it, Kcymaerxthaere is a fictional world, in an alternative universe that was created by “global storyteller,” Eames Demetrios.

The geography of Kcymaerxthaere is similar to our own world, but the rest of reality in that universe is completely different. Mr. Demetrios tells short stories of Kcymaerxthaere by putting the story narrative on bronze plaques. These bronze plaques are placed all over the world. So far, there are over 150 plaques in 6 different continents. The plaques are placed in our world, but they also coincide with the approximate location of the events in the alternative universe.
Read that last paragraph again to improve comprehension. Then, move on to the next section to get lost more fully.
Stories through Bronze Plaques
I know this probably makes little sense at this time. So, let’s just look at a few plaques as an example…

Do not get too focused on the “Nature of the Waters” story on the plaque. It not the story content that interests me…its the location of the plaque. In the Kcymaerxthaere reality, the story tells of a murder that occurred at the “gwome of Markohn Najeralki.” In our world, that location approximately coincides with that tobacco shop in San Marcos, Texas. Got it? Remember…the crazy part is that there are over 150 of these plaques/stories all over the world.

The next story, “Grwostleven.” tells of “Grwosts,” who can travel between dimensions. But, that’s not what’s important. I am fascinated by the random placement around our world. The plaque above was placed behind the cashier’s station in a restaurant, Hopcat, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I asked the server about it, and she had no idea about the plaque. Are you getting it yet??? One more time…

Again…some story about “Warres” from Kcymaerxthaere. This story is put on a bronze plaque and placed on an old warehouse in a shady alley at 4701 Perkins Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. That’s the basics of Eames Demetrios’ Kcymaerxthaere art project. That is, telling stories of Kcymaerxthaere by placing “art” at the approximate real world location. Then, repeat this process all over the globe, 150+ times in 6 continents.
Advanced Kcymaerxthaere
OK, I lied to you. Certainly not for the first time. But, it was definitely for your own good this time. I did not want to give you too much Kcymaerxthaere at once. Anyway, the majority of the “story/art” installations are plaques…but, not all off them. On rare occasions, Eames Demetrios goes BIG. the story may be building, a sculpture, or even a large field. My friend, Goosebuster, and I visited one such installation in New Harmony, Indiana.

Its called a “Healing Palindrome.” There are various shaped, flat rocks placed around the perimeter of this field. Each rock has part of a Kcymaerxthaere story on it. Apparently, you can read the rocks in either direction and it tells the same story (i.e. like a palindrome). The story has something to do with some aquatic creation being healed when placed within the palindrome circle. Who knows. The points is…this craziness is not just little bronze plaques. Mr. Demetrios sometimes goes to extreme length to tell his global story. Case in point…New Harmony, Indiana.

Enough Already
Think of it this way…Mr. Demetrios is writing a book. He writes one chapter on each installation. Then, he places that chapter somewhere in the world. He has done about 150 chapters and plans to do 4 times that amount when he is done. His ultimate hope is to get one of his chapters installed on the moon. Based on what he has done so far, I would not bet against him.
Well, that’s the best I can do in explaining Kcymaerxthaere. I read the stories, but that is not my interest. My interest is the shear global scale of this odd project. Its a like a global scavenger hunt. Before I travel anywhere, I check the web site map to see if a Kcymaerxthaere installation is near my path of travel. If so, I stop by, take a picture, and add it to my Kcymaerxthaere collection. If that makes me strange…so be it.
Have a wonderful day. PT.
I hope you have enjoyed reading “Kcymaerxthaere” on Traveling with PugsleyTonks.

P.S. It gets even better
I did not want to include these installations because I have NOT visited them. But, to truly understand how odd and how enormous this project is…I wanted to show you other global installations. The ones that I have visited are all easily drivable. But, that is not always the case. The last photo is at the bottom of the sea, off the coast of Scotland.
