Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

SMALLTOWN, USA

Psychic reading as a Wedding Gift?

As I write this post, I am deep in the less civilized areas of the USA known as central Florida. Yes, its primarily a blog mission, but it’s also a wedding trip. So, I thought I would try to combine blog post and wedding gift. What better wedding gift than to have a personalized post dedicated to the newlyweds (i.e. Hannah and Jason). One, it saves me some money. Two, no one needs crap like a Le Creuset Signature round Dutch Oven for $400. Now, the question is…what do I do for Hannah and Jason? Thankfully, I discovered Cassadaga, Florida, an unincorporated, diamond in the rough that is very near their home. Cassadaga is known as the Psychic Capital of the World. So, what better gift for their wedding than a psychic reading. Plus, I dedicate this post to their coming nuptials.

OK, for post continuity, lets back up a bit for some Cassadaga history. George Colby was a young Baptist boy from New York born in 1848. At the age of 12, he was baptized. However, the baptism reportedly had the unintended consequence of awakening George’s psychic abilities. So, rather than the traditional Baptist path, young George studied, pursued and practiced the less than traditional path of psychic spiritualism. Soon thereafter, young George received a message in a seance that he would one day found a spiritualist community in the south. Long story short…in 1874, his spirit guide (named “Seneca”) led him to the place in Florida that eventually became Cassadaga. In 1894, he founded the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, which is the oldest continuously active religious community in southeastern USA.

Cassadaga is not completely unlike every other quiet, out of the way, unincorporated Florida village. Of course, the key difference is that the most of the residents are in some way involved in psychic spiritualism. And, this is no simple thing. The services and bodies of knowledge are vast. Do you want a seance? a palm reading? a Tarot reading? a crystal ball reading? a Ouija reading? a psychic reading? an aura cleansing? an astrologic prediction? some psychic healing? some metaphysical experience? Point being, when you are in the Psychic Capital of the World, your options are endless. And, of course, they knew we were coming. And, they were anxious to provide all said services to us…for a minor fee of course.

Now, back to the original point of this post…”Psychic reading as a Wedding Gift.” My wife and I wanted to get some manner of reading so we could ask some interesting (non-scary) questions about the future of Hannah and Jason’s coming marital life. And naturally, we did not want to spend a lot of money. So, after walking the town and reviewing all our psychic options, we bravely decided on the Purple Rose for a psychic reading. And, as you can see from the picture above…”walk-ins are welcome.”

And, the Purple Rose did not disappoint. First, it was pet friendly. Not only was it pet friendly, but they gave Tonks a free reading. Calvin (that’s the psychic) said Tonks had a very big heart, but was worried about something. Of course, he was spot on and we were astounded by his psychic accuracy. As for Carol, she got the 15 minute psychic reading for $30. She was again awed by the depth of his psychic skill. As these were deeply personal, life changing pearls of insight, Carol was not comfortable publishing them in the blog. But, she did get to ask questions at the end for our newlyweds:

  1. Will Hannah and Jason have a long and happy marriage?
  2. How many children will they have?
  3. Will the Philadelphia Eagles ever win another Super Bowl?

Regrettably, I now have to disappoint you a bit. Firstly, we have no pictures of the psychic reading. They were not really into the concept of photographing their psychic process. It’s probably about disrupting the universal flow or something or other. Secondly, as these are personal questions, intended for the newlyweds only. I will not reveal the answers on this public blog.

MESSAGE TO THE NEWLYWEDS: If you wish the answers to these questions, you BOTH must make said request in the COMMENT section below this post. I will return the answers in a private message. Whatever you decide to do…CONGRATULATIONS on your marriage. We wish you many years of happiness.

Hannah is my beautiful niece, an Army kid, that spent most her cognitive life growing up in the central Florida area. Jason is a righteous Jersey guy that has the NFL package. Of course, you can’t have too many relatives that have the NFL package. Plus, he is an active blog reader with high quality comments. So, that’s good enough for me. He’s family.

For the general readers, I hope you have enjoyed this insight into Cassadaga, Florida, the Psychic Capital of the World. If you ever need your aura cleansed or your psychic healed…this is the Smalltown USA that you want to visit. Lodging available at the Cassadaga Hotel. Be safe. PT
