Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

"FINE" DININGHIDDEN GEMS

PugsleyTonks is all about Romance!

When you know you are going to get caught, its always best to confess first. Its true. Consequently, you will seem less guilty that way. So, let me say that some astute readers may view this post as my first rerun. Yes, about a year ago, I did write a post on Hillbilly Hotdog. But, there are extenuating circumstances for this newer post. First, Hillbilly Hotdog is one of my favorite, fine dining places in all of the world. Do NOT let your life slip away without finding a reason to eat at Hillbilly Hotdog in Lesage, West Virginia. Perhaps, praise like that warrants a second post. Be that as it may, I have an even better reason to justify this post. I can say completely without guilt that this post is NOT a Rerun…its all about Romance!

As this is one of my most special places in the world, I had to share it with my beloved. So, I took Carol down to Hillbilly Hotdog with me. Beyond just honoring her with their rare and wonderful cuisine, I also went big. I surprised her with a ceremony to renew our wedding vows at the HBHD Wedding Chapel. Needless to say, my overt demonstration of undying love was deeply touching to Carol. Additionally, I did not half ass the planning. We had a witness and reception.

When I initially scouted this venue for the reception, it was pre-Covid. So, the HBHD dining room was operating and available. However, the HBHD indoor dining is actually a non-ventilated, abandoned school bus. So, indoor dining was not Covid safe. Not to worry. On top of the bus, HBHD built a wonderful outside, patio area. The elevated, open air dining made for a great, Covid safe, reception. Furthermore, the patio provided a lovely view of the Lesage, WV, skyline, as well as the Ohio River. Yes, PBR was served at the reception. You could even take a marker and write your best wishes to the couple on the table, railings, floor, or really anything in the area.

Anyway, rather than drone on more about my love for my wife and the Hillbilly Hotdog. I will just let the vow renewal photos speak for themselves…

But, HBHD is not just a beautiful venue with world class dining. Its about wisdom too. Everywhere you look, you will find the local wisdom of the ages…

In all seriousness, Blog Tenant #6 reads…”Visit remote, out of the way places, so your readers don’t have to.” Hillbilly Hotdog is NOT that kind of place. True, it is a remote, out of the way place. However, if you have a shred of good spirit in your body, you will want to road trip to this place. It’s flat out fun. And, while the cuisine is simple, it’s also good. Carol even liked her burger. So, if you have never listened to me on any post before, do so now. Put Hillbilly Hotdog on your Bucket List. On one fine afternoon soon, find an excuse to road trip to Lesage, WV. NOT a Rerun. Is all about Romance! PT

So am I noticing that HBHD does NOT serve PBR???

And did Carol receive anything “sparkly” (like jewelry) to commemorate the special occasion?

    • Dear Mr. Anonymous…thank you for reading and commenting. Please recheck the post. In the third paragraph, I reference the serving of PBR. Additionally, look closely at the picture with “Carol and witness at the reception”…you will see my PBR on the table.

As for your other question…no, there was no “sparkly” stuff associated with the ceremony. I did not want to belittle the deep emotional meaning by introducing such petty materialism. My planning of this event at one of my most happiest of places was demonstration of my love enough. PT
