Traveling with PugsleyTonks

What is Traveling with PugsleyTonks all about?? My goal is the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that diamond in the rough or go to the out of the way small town. I want to visit the oldest bar in every state with hopes that they serve some PBR on tap. Find that unique "ma-pa" restaurant with an interesting blue collar atmosphere and large portions to match. Or, perhaps its as simple as a little walkabout in the city to discover that strange little statue or other oddities. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. Discover some obscure attraction or learn some useless information. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

USA STATES

STATE #46 – WYOMING

While I may have only done one thing in Wyoming, it was a good one…Devils Tower, Wyoming. To be truthful, the main reason for going here was that Devils Tower sits in the far northeast corner of Wyoming. On my 3,500-mile road trip, this was the farthest point west that I achieved…my wife has a real job and I needed to get her home so she could keep her job. After this, it was up to Montana then we turned east and headed for home. Regardless, I am quite happy that I made it to Devils Tower. First, I like movie references and will always drive out of my way for a movie reference. As you old folks out there should know…this was the site featured in the movie, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” As I recall the plot, all these different people get differing compulsions/messages. All these compulsions led to Devils Tower, WY, where you ultimately get to meet the aliens. Well, my wife and I encountered no aliens, but we had a great hike around this natural wonder. As I recall, Devils Tower was the first National monument as designated by President Theodore Roosevelt. Its great country out there. Basically, the main hike is one big circle around Devils Tower. It’s not a long hike, nor a difficult one, but it’s well worth doing. Devils Tower is spectacular. And, do not miss the prairie dog city just before you enter Devils Tower. Great stop! PT
