Traveling with PugsleyTonks

Traveling with PugsleyTonks is about the pursuit of that little slice of Americana. It's not big name or high-cost tourism. PugsleyTonks likes to find that little known tourist trap…that diamond in the rough attraction…the hole in the wall restaurant…or the special dive bar serving PBR. So, please come and join me in my search for Americana. All are welcome and its really just good, clean travel fun. PT

"FINE" DININGMUSEUMS

The Last Meal

A Halloween Dining Option

WARNING: In the spirit of Halloween, PT is going a little dark on this post. If you do not appreciate some dark humor and want only sunshine and rainbows, stop here. Enough said, let’s talk the Last Meal.

What does this clown and this meal have in common?

To be perfectly accurate, the exact meal was a bucket of KFC chicken, 12 fried prawns, a pound of strawberries, French fries and a Diet Coke. The size of my meal had to be pared down to be more commercially viable. But, all things considered, my “John Wayne Gacy” food order was pretty darn spot on. That’s right. My dinner order was the “John Wayne Gacy.” This culinary selection is based on the Last Meal of condemned serial killer John Wayne Gacy (a.k.a. Pogo the Clown or The Clown Killer)

Only at the Last Meal

As strange as all this sounds, I am not making this up. In the small town of Galion, Ohio, there is a restaurant called the Last Meal. Their menu selections consist of 9 different dining options. Each meal is based on the last meal of a notorious serial killer. And, for those of you who were too young to remember, John Wayne Gacy committed murder and various unspeakable acts on 33 men and boys between 1972 to 1978.

I am not going to darken this post any further by providing more details on the heinous crimes committed by the other monsters. The good news is that they were all eventually caught, convicted, and executed. So…now we can have a twisted little restaurant in Galion, OH. Believe it or not, I was not the only demented diner on this blog mission. My beloved wife, Carol, ordered the Aileen Wuornos…burger and fries. Furthermore, on his first blog mission, a Renowned Local Bartender, had the Elizabeth Ann Duncan…steak and salad.

Tragically, the Last Meal does not have a liquor license. However, they do offer a nice selection of murder related mock-tails. Carol said her Black Dahlia was excellent.

Wait…there’s more

As if a serial killer themed restaurant is not strange enough, the other side of the establishment is the Ohio Museum of Horror.

Basically, the museum consists of many little sections…each dedicated to a serial killer or notorious mass murder incident. Each section includes crime summaries, pictures, articles, and low level artifacts relating to that topic. Examples of featured monsters, not already mentioned, include Charlie Manson, Jim Jones (i.e. drink the red Kool-Aid), OJ Simpson, the Zodiac killer and Jeffrey Daumer. Here’s a few pictures to give you some idea of the experience.

Parting Gifts

Beyond all the murderous stuff, the museum had other creepy things like human bones, embalming tools, caskets, and a Ouija board collection. In fact, in viewing their collection of real human skulls, I learned an important Ohio law distinction. You can legally own human bones (if acquired legally). But, owning/possessing tissue and/or organs is illegal. Now you know.

Lastly, on the way out, do not miss the gift shop. Yes, you can get a t-shirt. Additionally, there is also a selection of real human bones for your purchase. I saw ribs, a sternum, and partial hip bone. All of which are available for purchase to adorn your living room.

Wrap It Up

There you go. That’s the Ohio Museum of Horror, featuring the Last Meal restaurant. To be honest, the Horror museum is not very horrifying. And, the food at the Last Meal is more prison level than good dining. So, only visit this place if you appreciate the weird. I can guarantee this is one of the weirdest places that I have visited.

Anyway, I hope that was dark enough for you on this eve of Halloween. Have a safe and scary Halloween. PT
