The Trolls are Propagating!
2020 Troll Hunt Follow Up
Back in the dreaded COVID days of 2020, my wife and I went on our first troll hunt. The hunt took place at the Bernheim Forest and Arboretum, just south of Louisville, KY. We spotted a couple COVID ready, socially distanced trolls.

At the time of that hunt, there were only a handful of these art installations, mostly in the US and Europe. However, this thing got popular and the trolls are propagating! This worldwide art project is the brain child of Danish artist, Tom Dambo. Tom uses only recovered or recycled material to construct extremely detailed, and life-sized trolls. He selects parks and forests all over the world to host his art. Today there are about 150 trolls spread throughout 5 continents.

The Hunt Continues
As I really enjoy this troll art and they always require a nice hike in the woods, Carol and I have continued to hunt the trolls whenever we get close. Our next troll encounter was about 2 years later at the Aullwood Audobon, near Dayton, OH. There we found Bibbi, Bo, and Bodil…

Dambo’s trolls usually appear in families. Additionally, you get a bit of back story on the family as you hike the trails. After Bibbi, you continue along the trail until you see Bodil playing with an “egg.”

And finally, the troll search ends with chilling with Bo.
Coastal Maine
First, before I mention the trolls, let me just give a shout out to the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, near Boothbay, Maine. Botanical Gardens usually have limited appeal for me. But, this garden was worth a visit. And, of course, the highlight was the troll hunting…

As I said earlier, do not count on any of these trolls being together or quickly accessible. The artist always places them to give you some exercise and a tour of that particular park.

Most of the troll installations have 1-3 trolls. However, the troll family on coastal Maine gives you 5 trolls for your entry fee.

Reader Contributions
Nothing warms my heart quite like evidence that someone is actually reading my blog. I get overexcited at every new subscriber, or even just a subscriber comment. Another very welcome sign of readership is when subscribers send me pictures of their adventures based on past post. So, thank you…thank you…thank you to these loyal subscribers for sharing their troll hunts.

Wrap It Up
So, I promise that if I get near another Troll installation, I will not publish a third post. But, I just think a Danish artist building these intricate trolls throughout the world is a very fascinating art project. There is usually a nominal fee to enter these parks. But, with that fee, you get a nature hike and TROLLS. The trolls are propagating! So, use the map link below to incorporate a troll hunt into your travel itinerary.

The troll in Denmark was actually in a very urban neighborhood in Copenhagen! Cool variation from the normal park installation.
